2017 Best Selling PEV in Sweden

Over 20.000 units sold in 2017

The Swedish PEV market ended the year registering 2.222 units in December, close to the 2.336 record performance of November, while growing 48% YoY, pulling once again the 2017 PEV Share to record levels, at 5.3%, a full 1.7% above the 2016 share of 3.6%, the largest share increase ever.

Interestingly, the Diesel share in the mainstream Swedish market dropped 3%, from 52% in 2016, to 49% in 2017...

The full year PEV sales crossed the 20.000 units, with PHEVs representing 79% of the total market, approximately the same as in 2016 (78%).

Looking at December Best Sellers, the leader remained the same, with the Volkswagen Passat GTE scoring 440 units and collecting its fifth consecutive Monthly Best Selling PEV trophy, while in Second we have the Volvo V60 PHEV, experiencing a second youth, be registering 220 units, an impressive performance, considering this model has landed in the distant year of 2012.

Interestingly, two Volvo show up in the Top 5, with the #5 S/V90 PHEV twins starting to live up to its potential by delivering a record 165 units.

Looking at the YTD models ranking, the VW Passat GTE won the Best Seller award for the second time in a row, with a record 4.624 units, or 800 more than what it had sold in the previous year, confirming its status of being a company-car darling...

The remaining podium positions went to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, its second runner-up place in a row, while in Third we have the surprising Kia Optima PHEV, that thanks to the new (And popular) estate body, it jumped from #19 in 2016 to Third in 2017.

Volvo had a great month, with the Volvo V60 PHEV rising to Fourth Place, while its stablemate XC60 PHEV climbed to #10, with the SUV winning the 2017 Rookie of the Year award.

Underlining the memorable month for Volvo, the S/V90 PHEV twins ended the year jumping to #15, with all four Volvo models ending 2017 within the Top 15, three of them inside the Top 10.

Looking elsewhere, the Tesla Model S climbed to #7, thanks to 118 deliveries, its best performance in six months, while the Kia Niro PHEV went up to #21, with 96 registrations in December and promising a higher standing in 2018.

Finally, the VW Golf GTE registered 83 units, its best result in 2017, allowing it to end the year in #12

On the PEV manufacturers ranking, the #1 Volkswagen (28%, up 1%) has to thank the Passat GTE for winning the 2017 title, its second in a row, with Mitsubishi (12%, down 1%) being surpassed by both Volvo and BMW (13%, up 1%) in December, thus losing a podium place, to the profit of the Swedish (Silver) and German (Bronze) brands.

On the LCV market, sales were up 15% in 2017, to 314 units, with the best selling van being the Renault Kangoo ZE, while looking at FCEVs, sales were down 26%, to just 14 units, with the oldtimer Hyundai ix35 FCEV managing to beat the Toyota Mirai by 8 to 6.
