Iceland December 2013

Nissan Leaf was the Best Selling EV in Iceland

Leaf Top Dog Edition

72 EV's were sold in Iceland this year, a 300% increase over last year, jumping the local EV Share to a nice 0,94%.

After some initial fight from the Prius Plug-In and the Mitsu I-Miev, the Nissan Leaf got its first Best Selling Crown in Iceland, with 40% share and achieving a record-setting 29 sales.

Tied in second were the I-Miev (Last year Best Seller) and the Prius Plug-In (Best PHEV), selling 13 units each, while the Tesla Model S was fourth, with 8 units, five of them in December.

The last place in the ranking goes for the Opel Ampera, having sold just 2 units this year, when last year it had sold 5 and finished the year in #2.

PHEV's lost market share, last year they had 50% of the market, but in '13 their share has shrunk to just 26%.

With the Model S starting to make an impact in Iceland and given the locals taste for big, powerful cars, it sure looks that PHEV's and the Nissan Leaf will have in the american car a serious competitor for the 2014 Best Selling Crown.
